Laura Gaya Gabàs, violin


Laura Gaya, born in Barcelona in 1987, starts playing violin at the age of seven. At this young age, she is admitted to the Conservatory of Barcelona (studying with Anca M.Andrei and Evelio Tieles). In 2010, Laura completes her Bachelors degree in Music and Violin Performance at the ESMuC, still in Barcelona, wherein she works with violinist Eva Graubin. During this period, she receives several master classes from renowned violinists, such as Christian Tetzlaff and Boris Garlitsky.


In 2009, Laura makes her début as a soloist at the renowned concert hall of Palau de la Música Catalana. Following her début, she performs at many renowned festivals and venues worldwide, where she is highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike: among others, in Spain – at New Talents from Auditori de Barcelona, La Pedrera from Gaudí and the Museu d’Història de Barcelona -; in France – at the Festival Pernod-Ricard SACEM in Paris and the Festival Nuits Romantiques in Aix-les-Bains with Nemanja Radulovic -; and in Costa Rica, at the Festival Internacional Credomatic, where she plays at the Teatro Nacional de San José and concert tours across the country. Laura also plays in a number of orchestras, such as the Netherlands Youth Orchestra (John Adams) and the Orchestre Ostinato de l’Opéra Comique de Paris, touring European countries.


Currently, Laura is residing in Paris and involved in a number of Duo projects between the United Kingdom, France and Spain. She works intensively on chamber music, along with pianist Isabel Fèlix, violinist Laia Pujolassos and guitarist Maria Camahort. She furthermore continues to perfect her violin skills with maestro Patrice Fontanarosa at the Schola Cantorum of Paris, where she, in 2012, obtained her Virtuosity Diploma and, in 2013, her Concertist Diploma – both times with a first class honours, or summa cum laude. Concurrently, having delved into a more intellectual study of music, Laura obtained, in June 2013, a Masters in Musicological Research from Sorbonne University (Université Sorbonne – Paris IV).


Laura has received several prizes, celebrating her artistic talent. She has been decorated with Joan Massià (Barcelona), Vatelot-Rampal (Paris), Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe prizes. Laura is moreover a Fundació Obra Social La Caixa and Fundación Mutua Madrileña grant holder. Through a highly selective process, these two grants are awarded by experts to artists who excel in their fields.
